ahwfb pediatric emergency department

project story

CJMW Architecture’s interior design group completed furniture and art packages in coordination with the project’s architect to complement the architectural design and interior finishes of Baptist Medical Center’s new Pediatric Emergency Department. The project scope included custom-designed nurses stations and control centers in multiple areas, waiting room furnishings and artwork throughout the space. Artwork and furnishings in the new 20,000 square foot Pediatric ED is designed to create a dynamic and stimulating space to encourage positive energy.

Artwork was chosen specifically to be bright, vibrant and colorful, but most importantly, to support the emotional needs of the children being treated. The nurses’ stations are designed with smooth edges and transitions for safety as well as with easy to clean surfaces. Fronted with graphic panels, some covered with bright solid colors, others with close up or abstract images of nature, the stations help make what could have been a purely clinical space bright, welcoming and interesting. An art piece covering one wall is made of bright pops of colored metal. Commissioned from a local artist, the individual metal forms in various shapes and sizes are mounted in a kaleidoscope pattern. Furnishings pick up the bright colors found in the artwork and nurses’ stations. Selected in part for durability and ease of wear, they are also comfortable and family friendly.
