truist leadership institute north

project story

The Truist Leadership Institute North Building rises from its wooded, lakeside setting, both sanctuary and catalyst; conceived to expand the Institute’s capacity while preserving the spirit of the South building, completed two years earlier. With 64 guestrooms, 7,000 SF training and administrative, and 4,500 SF amenity spaces, including a 220-seat restaurant, the 86,000 SF building transforms program requirements into an experience of reflection, connection, and growth.

The design intent was clear: architecture should dissolve distractions, immersing participants in nature while guiding them inward. A ridge-top footprint and single-loaded guestroom corridors ensure each private retreat-like guestroom opens to the quiet rhythm of stream and forest. Gathering spaces–anchored by a luminous, three-story Conference Center–turn outward to the lake, framing moments of collective discovery. Material choices–zinc, timber, boardformed concrete, vast glass panes–echo the textures of water and woodland, weaving the building seamlessly into its setting. Circulation unfolds as a journey: bridges cross a bioswale, light-filled stairs rise through the canopy, and communal “Merge” spaces offer pause and perspective. Visually linked to the adjacent South Building yet distilled into a more refined language, the North Building completes the campus. It is an architectural partner in leadership, grounding self-awareness in the dignity of place and the serenity of landscape.
